Digital Citizenship

Stay Safe Online!

About This experience

This innovative digital citizenship course is specifically designed for elementary students ages 6-9 (grades 3-5), featuring a unique peer-to-peer learning approach where young digital mentors guide their classmates through essential online safety, ethics, and responsible technology use. The "kids teaching kids" methodology creates a relatable environment where important concepts like cyberbullying prevention, password security, appropriate online communication, and digital footprints are explained through real-world scenarios and age-appropriate examples that resonate with young internet users. The course structure incorporates extended discussion periods, interactive role-playing activities, and repeated practice sessions to ensure students thoroughly understand and internalize each digital citizenship principle before moving to new topics. Through hands-on simulations of online scenarios, collaborative problem-solving exercises, and plenty of time for reflection and discussion about digital dilemmas, students develop critical thinking skills about technology use and build a strong foundation for safe, respectful online behavior. This forward-thinking educational approach not only prepares students to navigate the digital world responsibly and confidently, but also develops empathy, leadership, and communication skills among the young instructors, creating a supportive learning community where digital citizenship values are shared, reinforced, and deeply understood by all participants as they prepare for a lifetime of positive digital engagement.
